DATE: MARCH 5, 2022  |  TIME: 8:00 AM

The 2022 expansion of the One City Marathon Weekend brings the Maritime 5K (replacing the previous Maritime 8K) to City Center Saturday morning of the event weekend. Located in Central Newport News, runners will experience the heart of the city’s retail and business district. An extremely flat course, out-and-back route is sure to deliver fast times and happy runners.

After crossing the finish line, runners can head to Tradition Brewing Company for day one of the One City Celebration.

The USATF race course certification is VA22002RT.

The Maritime 5K has a 1 hour 15 minute time limit (24:00/mile pace).

Maritime 5K Participants Recieve:

    • Short sleeve lifestyle cotton shirt
    • Custom finishers medal
    • Personalized bib (must register before January 30, 2022)
    • The Maritime 5K uses MyLaps RFID chip technology. This tag is attached to your bib and records your time when you cross the Start/Finish line.
    • Complimentary beer from Tradition Brewing Company.

The USATF race course certification is VA22002RT.

Water Stations

One water station will be provided along the Maritime 5K course.

Portable Toilets

For your convenience and use during the race, portable toilets will be available at the water station.

OTHER INFORMATION

Packet Pick-Up

Participants must attend packet pick-up to receive their bib and race shirt. If you are picking up a packet for another runner you must fill out and bring this authorization form. Packets MUST be picked up in advance. There is NO race day packet pickup.

Finisher Items

Finisher medals will be distributed to finishers during the race. None of these items will be mailed to registrants who did not participate.

Gear Check

Gear check for the Maritime 5K will be located at the start area and moved to the finish line at the start of the race. Participants must use the clear bag provided to them by race organizers. No exceptions will be made.

LUKE’S LEGACY

The One City Marathon is pleased to announce our partnership with Luke’s Legacy 501(c)(3) for the 2022 Maritime 5K.

Luke was born in Newport News in 2004 to an Air Force family. He was an integral part of the track and cross-country team at Menchville High School, where he was known for commitment to team and speed on the track. In December 2020, after a courageous battle, Luke succumbed to a rare form of cancer at the age of 16.

Luke participated in the inaugural Nautical Mile and also the Maritime 8K multiple times. At the 2020 Maritime 8K, he won first place in his age group!

Luke’s Legacy was created to serve many purposes:
• Support to the Menchville High School Cross Country and Track team
• Provide 2 scholarships for the benefit of high school athletes living in Hampton Roads, Virginia
• Support pediatric cancer research and the research into rare cancers.
